Harwich 7 Springfield 5 (04/03/10) |
Harwich took 2 more valuable points in their quest for the runners-up spot and to stay hot on the heels of Southend and Colchester. Jason Warren (17.28) and Ben Attridge (18.72) lost to Darren Peetoom (26.95) and Phil Brewster (24.17) in the opening pairs. Scot Lawrie (26.05) and Alan Collins (20.38) squared the match with a win over Andy Burmby (26.86) and Mac Nagra (19.62). Simon Cook (36.29) was electric as he and Kevin Cook (25.60) beat Wayne Gleed (16.17) and Jimmy Noone (29.00) in only 32 darts. Kevin Edwards (26.62) and Adrian Genery (12.56) lost to George Harris (28.52) and Mick Harris (22.33) in the last pairs, so the match was tied again. Marcus Smith (22.84) fought back from 2 - 0 down only to lose 3 - 2 to the impressive Phil Brewster (26.55). Smith had a 116 finish, Brewster hit a 180 and the game had 22 scores of 100 or more. Scot Lawrie (29.24) beat former county stalwart George Harris (23.32) 3 - 1. Lawrie opened with a 12 dart leg that included a 124 finish on the bullseye. Adrian Genery (26.37) made up for his poor showing in the pairs when he beat Jimmy Noone (22.68) 3 - 0 with a nice flowing action. The match then probably hinged on the next game as Mick Chambers (22.97) beat Mick Harris (23.45). Chambers raced into a 1 - 0 lead only for Harris to hit back and go 2 - 1 up but unusually the Springfield man missed his double in the next 2 legs and Chambers hit his to win 3 - 2. Alan Collins (24.91) went 1 - 0 down as county B man Wayne Gleed (22.95) took out 123 on the bullseye but Collins fought back to take the next 3 legs with some excellent finishing of his own. Simon Cook (25.41) was eclipsed by fellow county A man Andy Burmby (28.36), Burmby winning 3 - 0 and clinching the win with a 121 finish on the bullseye. Mr. Reliable for so long, Kevin Edwards (24.64) won the match for Harwich when he beat former Harwich man Mac Nagra (20.55) 3 - 0. Kevin Cook (21.75) lost the last game to county captain Darren Peetoom (27.19) 3 - 1. Peetoom hit a 180 and would have had a big average had not been for a poor 4th leg. |

Mick Chambers (24.94) shocked Steve Johnson (31.52) with a bullseye finish in the first leg but all this did was kick Johnson into overdrive. The Burntwood man hit a 180 and a 171 in winning legs of 16, 14 and 18 darts for a 3 - 1 win. Marcus Smith (21.28) ground out a 3 - 1 win over Paul Sedge (19.57) in a dour game. Scott Lawrie (28.36) hit a 180 in his 3 - 0 eclipse of Ben Maguire (24.27). Alan Collins (24.63) suffered a disasterous third leg where he couldn't hit a double and paid the price in full when opponent Mark Banham (24.62) shot out in 15 darts in the deciding leg for a 3 - 2 win. Banham had earlier gone out on 120. Kevin Cook (19.27) has been on fire of late but will want to forget this one even though he won 3 - 0 against Andy Westcott (17.56). Simon Cook (25.12) had to come from 2 - 1 down to beat John Wastenage (22.80) 3 - 2. Wastenage hit a 180 as did Cook who also had a 112 finish. |

Cressing 4 Harwich 8 (18/02/10) |

Cook came from 2 - 1 down and hit 2 x 180's and won the game with a 142 finish. Kevin Edwards (28.90) beat John Mortimer (21.06) 3 - 0. Edwards celebrated his first win of the season for the county at the weekend with a comprehensive display of darts that included a 180. Mick Chambers (21.70) lead 2 - 1 against Tim Franklin (22.93) but could not find the finishing line and lost 3 - 2. Scott Lawrie (28.36) was another to celebrate his first county win of the season with another excellent game, a 3 - 0 win over Steve O'Neil (22.72). Adrian Genery (22.64), carrying more injuries than Humpty Dumpty when he fell off the wall, fights on with little reward, this time losing to Al Hedman (24.55) 3 - 2. Hedman hit a 180 and Genery had no luck at all. Simon Cook (23.55) beat Mick Cain (22.45) 3 - 1 in a game where both players deserved a far better average as they consistently wired doubles. Alan Collins (29.47) played his best game to date to beat Leigh Beeton (25.63) 3 - 0. Collins, fresh from a great county game with Tony O'Shea, hit a 180 and won the game with a 118 finish and Beeton hit a 180 as well. Harwich 7 Hockley 5 (11/02/10) |
Harwich produced what was possibly the greatest come back in the superleague history, especially as it was against reigning and previously unbeaten champions Hockley, 5 - 1 down playing in the eyes of skipper George Lord 'rubbish' they gradually got it back to set up Kevin Cook who was in blistering form (34.16) to win the match. Adrian Genery (16.22) and Kevin Edwards (25.17) were way off target as Mark Landers 26.26) and Shaun Walsh (27.89) romped to win the first leg. Mick Chambers (19.24) and Jason Warren (22.33) lost to Darrell Claydon (22.10) and Mick Baglow (25.85) who hit a 180 and worse was to follow as Scott Lawrie (22.55) and Alan Collins (25.53) were hammered by Johnny McFall (30.00) and Gary Phipps (25.61). Phipps winning the game with a 105 finish and Collins hit a 180. Simon Cook (25.28) and Kevin Cook (34.13) at last got Harwich up and running, beating Jimmy Allison (34.44) and Steve Smith (19.27) in 34 darts. Simon Cook (22.58) had been playing well but was off form for this one and county A man Mark Landers (23.48) romped to a 3 - 0 win including a 124 finish on the bulls-eye. Kevin Edwards (25.02) was eclipsed by a superb game by Jimmy Allison (31.31). Allison hit a 180 in his 3 - 0 win and won in 17, 14 and 17 darts. 5 - 1 down Harwich were looking at a slaughtering but for once had the rub of the green at critical times and found their fighting qualities of old. Adian Genery (25.42)played a lot of his game against Shaun Walsh (24.63) with 2 darts and had to dig deep to win after going 2 - 1 down. After looking dead and buried Genery hit a 101 finish and won 3 - 2. Marcus Smith (21.08) was up next against county A man Gary Phipps (20.32) and for 2 legs you would have thought they had never played darts before. Smith kept his nerve to win 3 - 2 after being 2 - 1 down and had a 100 finish. Scott Lawrie (29.37) will rate this win over former PDC man Steve Smith (30.44) as one of his best ever. At 2 - 0 up Smith had a dart at double 12 to win 3 - 0 but missed and Lawrie stepped into to win 3 - 2 in a very even game. Smith had a 136 finish and there were 24 ton pluses in the game. Alan Collins (24.24) beat Mick Baglow (23.32) 3 - 0, Baglow hitting his second 180 of the night. Mick Chambers (22.29) somehow beat county man Darrell Claydon (23.58) 3 - 2 as Claydon repeatedly missed doubles. Chambers completing a memorable fightback after being 2 - 0 down. Kevin Cook (34.16) hasn't been for a while for personal reasons but produced a blistering display of darts to beat stalwart Johnny McFall (28.48) 3 - 0. Cook hit a 180, 2 x 100 finishes and winning legs of 14, 14 and 16 darts. |

Colchester 8 Harwich 4 (31/01/10) |
The writing has been on the wall for sometime now and Harwich got what they deserved in this local derby with old rivals Colchester. In a very poor opening pairs Marcus Smith (14.54) and Mick Chambers (25.92) failed to hit a double and Dave Gwilliams (19.67) and Dave Bokenham (24.05) accepted their chance. Alan Collins (26.76) and Simon Cook (23.11) saw off Eddie Gosling (23.14) and Lee Woods (22.48) in the next. Adrian Genery (23.48) and Kevin Edwards (23.24) suffered their first defeat as a pair when they couldn't hit a double as well to let in Jamie Robinson (27.90) and Paul Walker (20.71). More trouble followed when Scott Lawrie (29.44) and Peter Barton (23.39) lost to the high scoring Coen Wiekamp (32.15) and Paul Copeland (19.89). Simon Cook (26.31) pulled a game back as he beat fellow county A stalwart Eddie Gosling (25.92) 3 - 2 in the opening singles. Gosling had a 116 finish in the second leg. Mick Chambers (23.90) was no match for another county A man, Coen Wiekamp (28.90), losing 3 - 0 to the on fire Colchester man. Jason Warren (19.25) took the first leg off Lee Woods (26.96) but Woods hit back with avengance to win 3 - 1 hitting a 180 in the process. Alan Collins (23.01) beat Paul Copeland (23.27) 3 - 1. Collins had a 116 finish and had he hit his doubles straight away could have had a big average. Scott Lawrie (31.49) turned in an imperious display to see off Dave Gwilliams (24.73) 3 - 1. Lawrie hit 2 x 180's and had winning legs of 16, 19 and 13 darts. Gwilliams hit a 180 and won his leg in 18 darts. Peter Barton (20.58) was out of form as he lost to Dave Bokenham (22.83) 3 - 2. Bokenham hit a 180. Kevin Edwards (26.12) lost 3 - 2 to Paul Walker (25.99) in a game that ebbed and flowed. Walker stunned Edwards with 2 x 116 finishes. With skipper George Lord missing with the flu, Adrian Genery (21.63) bravely turned out with the flu but suffered a below standard effort and lost 3 - 1 to Jamie Robinson (25.97) who hit a 180. |
Harwich 10 Chelmsford 2 (22/01/10) |
Harwich had an up and down game with a poor Chelmsford team who currenty lay at the bottom of the table. Adrian Genery (23.81) and Kevin Edwards (26.37) roared into a 300 lead only nearly throw it away, in the end just beating Simon Whalley (18.90) and Daniel Bowers (28.38). Peter Barton (22.46) and Mick Chambers (19.25) beat Dave Wright (15.96) and Vinnie Walsh (23.05) in a poor game. Scott Lawrie (21.50) and Jason Warren (21.09) struggled with the winning double to beat Dean Willsher (19.92) and Sam Lepley (18.04). Alan Collins (28.42) and Simon Cook (26.17) played well to beat Alan Church (28.00) and Mark Chapman (26.50) in the best pairs of the night. Alan Collins (23.43) hit a 180 and chalked up an overdue win as he beat Sam Lepley (21.73) 3 - 1. Scott Lawrie (27.83) had a poor first leg before going into overdrive to beat Dean Willsher (20.75) 3 - 0. Mick Chambers (20.20) reversed an earlier defeat by Mark Chapman (19.60) with a 3 - 1 win. Jason Warren (20.47) went 1 up but lost to Daniel Bowers (20.93) 3 - 1. Peter Barton (17.48) won 3 - 0 against Dave Wright (14.87) in a game where Barton struggled to hit a double and Wright struggled to score. Adrian Genery (24.02) suffered a shock defeat as Simon Whalley (29.47) played his best game of the season. Genery hit a 180 to which Whalley replied straight back with a 180 and went on to win 3 - 0. Simon Cook (27.83) threw the sort of darts that has got him back into the County A team as he beat Vinnie Walsh (20.92) 3 - 0. Then last but not least Kevin Edwards (28.90), who has been way off his best form of late, threw some great darts to win the last game against Alan Church (19.83) 3 - 0. |
Thurrock 5 Harwich 7 (16/01/10) |
No disrepect to Thurrock but Harwich were glad to have what appeared to be an easy game after the extended lay off due to the bad weather, however as Harwich missed their doubles, Thurrock kept hitting theirs and Harwich were lucky to come away with a win. Alan Collins (20.67) and Simon Cook (25.39) were left behind by the high scoring Simon Barry (31.79) and 180 hitting Steve Girling (22.06)in the opening game. More trouble loomed as Mick Chambers (27.13) and Jason Warren (19.27) were hammered by Liam Pender (25.76) and the on fire Mick McMcombe (36.87) in only 32 darts. Adrian Genery (23.83) hit a 180 as he and Kevin Edwards (20.43) only just scraped through against Keith White (27.09) and Micky Squelch (19.81). The reliable pairing of Scot Lawrie (25.65) and Peter Barton (27.11) made it all square with a win over Pete Tompkins (21.23) and Steve Cox (19.05). Jason Warren (24.24) soon made amends for his poor effort in the pairs by brushing aside Steve Girling (16.95) 3 - 0. Alan Collins (26.15) scored heavily enough but missed doubles, something his opponent Mick McCombe (23.60) did not. Collins had a 100 finish but McCombe won 3 - 1 and hit a 177 in the match. Peter Barton (21.16) was out of form and Simon Barry (22.16) finished well to win 3 - 1. Kevin Edwards (25.47) missed doubles in every leg but Pete Tompkins (24.92) took his chances and won 3 - 1 with both players hitting 180's. Scott Lawrie (25.47) won 3 - 0 against Liam Pender (19.67) but suffered a rare blip in the averages as he missed 11 darts at a double. Adrian Genery (21.27) won 3 - 1 against Keith White (19.28) but missed an incredible 23 darts at a double. Simon Cook (23.48) was rock solid as he beat Mike Gieson (21.65) 3 - 0. Mick Chambers (20.88) then clinched the 2 points for Harwich with a ground out 3 - 1 win over Micky Squelch (22.93). Worse was to follow as the team bus broke down at Pitsea but as we waited for the AA (not alchoholics anonymous) we were kept entertained by Ada trying to resuscitate a dead fox. He was last seen with a nice fur round his neck. |
Southend 7 Harwich 5 (15/12/09) |
Harwich suffer another blow as Southend play very well to take the points. Love him or hate him Steve Maish has got Southend playing as a team. George Lord (21.56) and Mick Chambers (25.44) were doing ok when Maish (29.00) turned the first pairs with a 180 and along with Mick Peel (26.61) took the opening pairs. Scott Lawrie (26.20) and Peter Barton (22.80) lost to the impressive Paul Marsh (31.89) and Matthew Waddoups (28.47). Adrian Genery (20.71) and Kevin Edwards (25.52) pulled a game back in beating Stephen Kiamil (21.57) and Richard Watering (23.22). Edwards finished on the bulls-eye. Alan Collins (26.50) and the on fire Simon Cook (34.93) made it all square with a win in 33 darts against Paul Barham (22.50) and the big hitting Graham Mills (37.20). Mills hit a 180 and Collins had to take 88 out for the leg. Peter Barton (21.31) was pushed all the way by Richard Watering (22.66). Watering had a 110 finish but Barton came out a 3 - 2 winner. George Lord (19.18) was off the pace and lost out to county new boy Paul Barham (23.86) 3 - 0. Simon Cook (25.67) had a game to remember as he beat Graham Mills (26.78) 3 - 1. Cook hit a 180 but Mills hit 3 x 180's which made it 4 for the night. Mick Chambers (22.47) lost to Paul Marsh (27.33) 3 - 0. Marsh carried on his good work from the pairs and finished very well. Adrian Genery (26.58) lost 3 - 1 to the bouyant Stephen Kiamil (29.21). Genery had a 105 finish in the first leg and Kiamil responded with a 101 checkout in the second leg. Alan Collins (26.31) hit a 180 but lost to fellow county A player Mick Peel (25.67) 3 - 2 in an even game. Scott Lawrie (29.47) hit a 180 in his 3 - 0 win over Matthew Waddoups (25.69). Lawrie then carried on that form to win the Saxmundum Open at the weekend. Kevin Edwards (26.15) took the opening leg against PDC man Steve Maish (28.34) before losing 3 - 1. Both players hit 180's. |
Basildon 6 Harwich 6 (03/12/09) |
Harwich struggled with Simon Cook unavailable and were a shadow of the team from the previous week and it was even more disappointing when the news came that joint second place Southend drew as well. Adrian Genery (25.33) and Kevin Edwards (30.28) hit 7 scores of 100 or more in succession then missed 9 darts at a double before seeing off Dave Orton (27.94) and James Jennings (23.87) in 36 darts. Peter Barton (16.19) and George Lord (21.69) made it 2 - 0 eventually as Lord scored heavily but both players found a double hard to come by when beating Carl Smith (16.62) and Keith Ridgway (17.15). The game was then thrown into confusion when the next pair from Basildon were unavailable as 1 player was playing a match at the other end of the bar so Scott Lawrie (26.09) and Ben Attridge (20.05) had to play next. They found county B man Phil Halls (31.18) in top form and with partner Les Atkins (15.00) Basildon made it 2 - 1. Alan Collins (26.48) and Mick Chambers (20.76) then lost out to the late arriving Leon Smerdon (25.67) and M.Sherdon (22.21). Peter Barton (27.50) had a great game with Phil Halls (28.78) and had to settle for second best losing 3 - 1 after going 1 leg up. Scott Lawrie (28.46) turned his usual immaculate game to see off another county B player, James Jennings (26.24). Lawrie winning 3 - 1. A solid performance from Adrian Genery (26.37) saw the Harwich man have a 114 finish in his 3 - 0 win over Keith Ridgeway (24.24). Ben Attridge (20.20) had a rare chance to impress and did all the hard work in going 2 - 0 up only to then let it all slip and finally lose to Carl Smith (22.26) 3 - 2. George Lord (21.29) had a repeat of the previous week when he went 2 - 0 down playing awful and then produced steady darts for a 3 - 2 win over Les Atkins (19.63). Alan Collins (24.62) couldn't hit a double and paid the price as Tommy Butler (21.59) took his chances to record his first win of the season with a 3 - 1 victory. More trouble followed as Kevin Edwards (24.35) lost 3 - 0 to county A man Dave Orton (27.33). It was left to Mick Chambers (22.77) to salvage a much needed point as he overcame the challenge of Dave O'Meara (20.21) with a comfortable 3 - 0 win. |

Harwich 9 Riverside 3 (26/11/09) |
WOW where do we start in Harwich's best ever team performance in their 7 year history. A 27.72 team average, 92 tons and a magnificent match in which Riverside also played their part. Adrian Genery (28.88) and Kevin Edwards (32.07) set the standard for the night with a great win in 33 darts over Martin Compton (25.33) and Paul Doherty (24.07) in the opening pairs. Mick Chambers (21.87) and George Lord (28.20) were blitzed by Ben Adams (33.53) and Paul Harrison (32.80) in 30 darts with Adams opening with a 180. Scot Lawrie (41.31) and Peter Barton (38.67) raised the bar to the roof with an incredible 25 dart leg (combined average 40.04) against Dave Solly (24.33) and Phil Cox (28.92). The scores were 81,125,140,140,140,100,140,99 and game shot in 1 dart on 36. Harwich went into the singles with a lead after Alan Collins (22.52) and Simon Cook (29.33) beat Robbie Caton (29.17) and Andy Rice (21.19) in 39 darts. Mick Chambers (21.89) went 1 up against Phil Cox (22.15) but then lost his way and the match 3 - 1. Alan Collins (25.57) hit the treble 20 for fun but struggled with doubles but still came away a 3 - 1 winner over Martin Compton (23.45). Compton had a 111 finish in the second leg. Peter Barton (25.97) came from 1 down to win 3 - 1 against the highly experienced Dave Solly (26.22). Barton had a 100 finish and Solly hit a 180. Adrian Genery (28.60) had to pull out all the stops to beat former county A man Andy Rice (26.40) 3 - 2 in a great game. Genery hit a 180 in a leg that he lost. Scot Lawrie (30.70) had lost the previous 2 games playing well and it must have been in the back of his mind this could be 3 as Paul Doherty (26.90) put him under pressure. At 2 - 2 Lawrie responded with a superb 11 dart leg to get back to winning ways. Lawrie hit a 101 finish and a 180. Kevin Edwards (25.71) lost out 3 - 2 to Robbie Caton (25.93) who always plays well on the Harwich pitch. Caton hit a 180 and came from 2 - 1 down. Skipper George Lord (22.43) put himself in the singles for the first time in over a year and played awful to go 2 down to county B man Ben Adams (23.26). Lord then dug in deep and as Adams missed doubles Lord put his away to turn the game on its head for a 3 - 2 win. Simon Cook (30.67) got a ticking off from skipper Lord and responded with a magnificent 3 - 0 over Paul Harrison (23.96) to complete a memorable night. |
